A Gustavian period secretary desk and bookcase likely from Hälsingland, Sweden, crafted in carved pine with dry-scraped original paint. The upper section features diamond-paneled doors and dentil molding, opening to blue-gray painted shelving. The fall-front writing surface reveals a striking black-painted interior fitted with drawers and a central cupboard. Circa 1790, this piece reflects the refined neoclassicism and regional craftsmanship of late 18th century rural Sweden. 84.5” h. x 47.5” w. x 43” d.
