Finely carved Louis XIV period oval mirror, 18th century

A finely carved Louis XIV period oval mirror, 18th century, retaining its original gilding with rich, time-worn patina. The boldly sculpted frame is adorned with acanthus scrolls, fruiting garlands, and floral clusters, surmounted by a large sunflower crest. The sunflower, a celebrated emblem of Louis XIV—the “Sun King”—was a favored decorative motif symbolizing loyalty and the monarch’s radiant power.
