Maud Earl, (1864 - 1943), oil on portrait of a Jack Russell Terrier. Frame also decorated by Earl. Signed lower left. Earl was a British painter and one of the few females famous in the late 19th Century. Known particularly for her fine paintings of dogs, she was favored by the Royals at the time. Her works appear in many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY.
