Pair of large Marseille faience potpourris, 18th Century.  Marseille faience earthenware is believed to have been made by Veuve Perrin, the polychrome central cartouches feature courtly love scenes to one side, landscape scenes featuring bridges to the other, and the tops also have lively landscape scenes.  The rest have foliate designs and shells on the base.  The decoration colors, typical of the Marseilles production of Veuve Perrin, are yellow, purple, manganese, and soft green. The form of the piece is Rococo in style, the top having holes for potpourri scent, narrowing to a funnel and then expanding out to a handled, voluptuous loved central section, the base circular.  The marks on the underside are the Marseille fleur de lis and a capital P, having two dots.  C 1770. 10.75” h. x 11” w.
