Lady Stuart was an early female writer and alleged lover of Sir Walter Scott. Daughter of John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, 25 May 1713 – 10 March 1792, a British nobleman who served as Prime Minister of Great Britain 1762-63. Much information on Lady Stuart is available on line and this actual painting is reproduced in various publications featuring her letters and other writings. Obtained from a London collector.
